Eden shares his thought for the week; are you ready?
I really enjoyed and was sufficiently challenged by Kit’s recent preach on winning at Christian growth, and since then I’ve been trying to put the points where I could improve on my own walk with God into practice.
This sort of got me thinking of how in certain areas of work and in life we hear about the word preparedness — getting ourselves ready for things that are to come. In my work in the IT industry you often hear words such as crisis preparedness, how to prepare for a crisis on the horizon. I think this is also something that we’ve seen a lot of recently in the news, with conflicts in many countries all over the world.
It’s important, I think, at least at times, to not neglect as Christians having crisis preparedness — being ready for him and to receive him at any and all times.
Now Matthew chapter 24 verses 42 to 44 says:
Therefore keep watch because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this — if the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
Matthew 24:42-44
Now the enemy will always attempt to steal, kill and destroy, but we know as believers that we have God behind us in everything that we do. And if we seek him with our whole heart, as Jeremiah 29 verse 13 says, we will find him.
We need to turn our attention not to worldly desires, but to Christ — and to our unpreparedness for his coming. Peter writes to the oppressed in his letter and elaborates on this a little bit more. 1 Peter chapter 1 verses 13 to 16 says:
Therefore, with minds that were alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who calls you is holy, so be holy in all that you do. For it is written: be holy, because I am holy.
1 Peter 1:13-16
Now I want to close in prayer for those who may be struggling with God’s word this week, struggling with connection to him, or for those oppressed for having faith in God all over the world.
I pray that you’ll seek God in all that you do this week, taking time out of your daily routine to be blessed by his word. May it take on new meaning this week, I pray. For those oppressed around the world, do not lose faith but remain steadfast, as God loves a cheerful giver. Give yourself fully to him and you will be rewarded in heaven. Allow God to guide your steps and be blessed in the knowledge that he is with you always.
May God bless us all this week.
