George shares his thought for the week; how we can’t turn back the clock, but God can forgive:
It’s the end of October. We’re well into autumn, winter beckons, and those hot and humid days of summer are well behind us. It’s become wet and windy, and the clocks have gone back. We get a bit of extra light in the morning, but darker evenings for a while.
It got me thinking about our lives and how often we think about things we might have done in the past. We think, “Oh, I just wish I could turn back the clock and go back to that and change what I did.” Perhaps there are things we’ve done wrong, maybe things we would call sin, that we wish we could go back and redo.
Of course, we can’t turn back the clock. We can’t go back in time and change those things. But what’s great is that the Bible, in the first letter we have recorded from John in 1 John 1:9, tells us that when we confess the things we’ve done wrong to Jesus, He is faithful. He will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from those iniquities, those things we’ve done wrong.
When you look in the book of Hebrews, we read about the covenant that God establishes with us, those who have confessed our sins to Him. He says, “I’ll remember your sins no more,” quoting what we see of the first covenant between God and the children of Israel in Jeremiah.
So, we can be absolutely sure that despite the earthly consequences of things we’ve done in the past, our eternal hope is that if we confess our sins to God, the things we’ve done wrong to Him, then He will forgive us of those sins and cleanse us from those things, so that they will not have an implication for us into eternity.
We can have that eternal hope. We can rest assured that we can enjoy eternity with God, sin-free, because He has forgiven us.
Have a great week!
