Nothing Is Too Hard For God

Barbie shares her thought for the week; nothing is too hard for God.

I remember a time in Bible College when we were both studying and we had three children under ten and we didn’t have much money. On our way to one of our placements one Sunday, our car broke down, which was a disaster. We managed to get one of our fellow students to help us fix the car, but he said we needed a new car part. We sent off for the new car part and it arrived, but it was the wrong part, and this happened twice!

By this stage I was really mad, and I remember one afternoon when Keith and the kids weren’t home yet, sitting in my lounge and having a right old moan at God. “How come you’re doing this to us, God? How come you’re letting this happen? Haven’t we given up everything to come to Bible College and serve you? Why aren’t you coming through for us? Why is this happening to us?”

A stillness came over me, and I remember God saying to me in that stillness, “Barbie, why do you worship me? Do you worship me because of what I can give to you, or do you worship me because of what I’ve already done for you?”

I realised that day that God had given up everything for me already. He had already sacrificed his own son so that I could have a relationship with him. If he did nothing else for me, he’d already done it all for me.

But does that mean that I don’t hold on to the promises of God? If God has promised me something, do I not believe that he will come through for me because he’s already done it all? No, I don’t see it that way at all. The Bible tells us in Genesis that God had promised Abraham a son, and yet when he reached a hundred years old, he still hadn’t seen the fulfilment of that promise. But when questioned, he said,

Is anything too hard for God?

Genesis 18:14

Nothing is too hard for God. His promises are yes and amen – he cannot go back on his word. I also know that Abraham’s faith was credited to him as righteousness, as the Hebrews passage tells us.

Today, I wonder if we need to be a bit like Abraham – to have realised that God has done it all for us before we even begin to think about it. He has already given up everything for us. But nothing is too hard for God, and he can fulfil his promises, and our faith will be credited to us as righteousness.

God bless.
