My Purpose Will Be Established – Thought For The Week

Milly shares her thought for the week; My purpose will be established.

In a world in which there is so much turmoil, I really love to feast on the Old Testament, where the power and might of Almighty God are so gloriously displayed.

Take for instance the return of the Jewish people to Judah from exile in Babylon. We see that God stirred the heart of King Cyrus of Persia. Listen to this pagan king’s response.

The Lord, the God of Heaven, has appointed me to build him a temple at Jerusalem.

2 Chronicles 36:23

Not only did King Cyrus allow the exiled Jews to return to their homeland and rebuild the temple, he returned to them all that Nebuchadnezzar had captured from the temple. And he also instructed his own people to contribute silver, gold and other supplies to the returning Jews. And the story didn’t end there! Cyrus’s successor, King Darius and later King Atasirxes, were also used by God to provide support, provision and protection as three successive groups of exiles returned to Judah.

This highlights the sovereignty of Almighty God over all nations and rulers, irrespective of their might and ambitions. The hearts of kings are indeed in his hands to turn as he pleases. So, even though turmoil continues on the global stage, even though in this nation there is a drive to pass, polices that do not honour Creator God, even though in our personal lives we might be facing major challenges, Almighty God declares in Isaiah 46,

I am God and there is no other. I am God and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning. My purpose will be established and I will accomplish all my good pleasure.

Isaiah 46:10

And he is the same God yesterday, today and forever. He is in the business of intervening and turning situations round. Glory to God. So, let’s be encouraged and let’s continue to pray.
