Disciple Of Jesus Christ – Thought For The Week

Saji shares his thought for the week; being a disciple of Jesus Christ.

In the beginning of this week, let’s take a moment to reflect together and ask ourselves: are we truly following Jesus Christ? Are we living as His true disciples?

Jesus said,

If any man will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.

Matthew 16:24

Yes, we may have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. But have we really denied ourselves? Are we truly taking up our cross daily and following Him? Following means obedience. It means surrender. It means change.

Jesus also said,

If ye continue in My word then are ye My disciples indeed.

John 8:31

Are we continuing in His Word? not just hearing it, not just reading it but living it out every day?

He said,

“Herein is my Father glorified that ye bear much fruit so ye shall be my disciples.”

John 15:8

The Lord is talking about fruit of the Spirit, that is

Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.

Galatians 5:22–23

Is this fruit manifesting in our lives? Are we growing in these things?

Can others see Jesus in us? Jesus wants remaining fruit from our lives. He said,

Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you and ordained you, that you should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain.

John 15:16

And Jesus also said,

“By this all men know that ye are My disciples if ye have love one to another.”

John 13:35

Are we truly loving one another? Are we forgiving one another? Because if we cannot forgive, how can we say we love? And if we do not love how will anyone know that we belong to Jesus?

Let’s ask the Lord to help us. Let’s be a people who shine with His light. Let’s reflect Jesus in our speech in our actions and in our relationships. And if we recognize today that we’ve been following from a distance If we haven’t fully surrendered let’s not wait another moment.

Let’s make this our prayer:

“Lord, we surrender. We want to love as You have loved us. We will continue in Your Word. Let Your Spirit bear fruit in our lives, lasting fruit. And use us, Lord to go and make disciples for the glory of Your name. We don’t just want to be believers; we want to be true disciples. And we want to disciple others to the glory of God. In Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.

May God bless us. May our lives shine with His presence and bring glory to His name.
