Kit shares his thought for the week; being a clean Christian.
I hope you’ll enjoy your bank holiday Monday and that you’re enjoying the weather – although right now it’s making the flat very hot and quite unbearable! But what can you do? British people complain when the weather is good and complain when it’s bad. I did take advantage of it this weekend though – I took some time on Saturday to clean the car.
As I was cleaning it, the car was looking really good on the outside – shiny and spotless. But there were some bits I had missed, hidden away in the nooks and crannies, just in the grooves of the car. As I went back to clean those, it spilled more mucky water out onto the parts I had already cleaned.
As I was doing that, it reminded me of our Christian life. We can look really clean and presentable on the outside, really polished to other Christians – but God looks on the inside. So despite having a clean, good-looking Christian life on the surface, what goes on within our hearts and behind closed doors is what truly matters to God.
My challenge and encouragement for this week is simply to assess your Christian life – to look honestly at any areas of sin, any areas where forgiveness is needed, any areas that need to be worked on through the Holy Spirit – so that we can be truly presentable before the throne of God.
Sometimes, as the Holy Spirit deals with these hidden issues, it’s going to make us look dirty on the outside for a moment – just like that mucky water spilling out onto the clean car. That can put us off, but it really shouldn’t. Because what comes after isn’t just a good-looking Christian on the outside. What comes after is a good, healthy soul pursuing the goodness of God.
So that’s my encouragement and challenge for this week: assess your life, and give over any areas of dirt to the Holy Spirit so they can be worked on – and then we can continue to pursue the greatest example of Christ.
