This week our thought for the week is a poem written by Liz Cooper, entitled Good News.
Good news, good news,
Go knock on all the doors of Bethlehem,
Wake up slumberers and celebrate,
For something amazing, something beautiful has happened,
For unto us a child has been born,
He is Immanuel, God with us,
The sun set on a world lost,
And woke up to hope eternal.
Hallelujah, Hallelujah,
Just humble shepherds, we were in the fields caring for our sheep,
When in the midnight blue skies,
Heaven’s light shone more brillant than any day,
A angel appeared in the radiant glory of God,
Telling us not to afraid and to go and see the Messiah,
Born of the line of David, the shepherd king,
Born for all that day in Bethlehem.
Glory be to God in the highest,
The sky filled with a shining army of angels
The music and melodies like nothing on earth,
An all consuming, joyful sound which vibrated through our souls,
Singing peace on earth and goodwill to all men,
Heaven truly was touching Earth,
And with wonder and excitement we rushed down to Bethlehem to find this precious babe.
Holy, holy, holy is the Lord,
And there just as the angel had told us,
Lay a newborn baby sweet, wrapped in cloths,
In a manger amongst the animal’s straw,
A baby secure in its parent’s love,
Sleeping peacefully in newborn serenity,
So, very human and yet at the same time so indescribably divine,
We could only look in wonder, our hearts warmed with love and joy.
Rejoice, rejoice, celebrate and sing,
For we saw it with our own eyes,
Be amazed, be astonished but be blessed,
For a Saviour for all the world has been born,
God has reached down from Heaven,
Giving us His most precious thing, His Son,
A gift like no other, to bring humanity back to Him,
Brokenness, sickness and death reversed because of the birth of a king.
So sing, sing, lift up your voices and sing,
Can’t you hear the buzz of all creation,
The heavenly excitement in the air,
The day the whole world has waited for has come,
The darkness is receding and the light of the world has come,
His light is shining bright and clear,
Don’t miss this party in Heaven, your invitation is here and you have nothing to fear.
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
All Heaven and Earth praise our Lord.
