Stepping Out In Faith – Thought For The Week

Ellie shares her thought for the week; stepping out in faith.

In Matthew 14 verse 29 it says,

“Come,” he said, then Peter got down out of the boat and walked on the water and came towards Jesus.

Matthew 14:29

I love this story and I love how it’s such a great reminder that faith often begins with one small step. Peter didn’t wait for the wind and the waves to come before he stepped out of the boat, but he trusted in God right in the middle of the storm. The other disciples, they stayed in the boat where it was safe and comfortable, where it was completely predictable, but Peter fixed his eyes on Jesus and he did something that would have been completely impossible to have done on his own.

Now Peter’s faith wasn’t perfect, fear crept in which took his focus off of Jesus and instead onto what could have happened, onto the wind and onto the waves. Yet even in that moment of sinking, Peter cried out these words, he said, “Lord, save me.” And when he did, Jesus immediately reached out and caught him. And so this story is about trusting Jesus enough to take that first step, even when you don’t know what’s going to happen. True faith doesn’t wait for the conditions to be perfect.

I wonder what boat might God be calling you out to step out of this week, have you let the wind and the waves distract you from fixing your eyes on Jesus? And so as we go into the rest of this week, let me encourage you that Jesus wants your willing heart that is ready to trust him and take a step of obedience.

Have a great week.
